The assistive technology industry and DRG

The Danish assistive technology industry has a good reputation worldwide, particularly owing to the ability of the Danish manufacturers to turn Denmark’s pioneer position within the elderly and disabled sector into high-quality and useful products and services designed to meet the needs of different groups of people with disabilities. This applies to products and services facilitating everyday activities, individually designed technology-based assistive devices as well as equipment facilitating accessibility in the home..

  Small and medium-sized
Most of the enterprises are small and medium-sized offering a variety of products and services. This mix of small and larger enterprises provides a high degree of flexibility and adaptability of the industry when it comes to new user needs and changed market conditions, nationally as well as internationally.

  Development, cooperation and quality
The Danish assistive technology industry is actually a result of Denmark’s pioneer position within the elderly and disabled sector. Traditionally the products are developed in a close cooperation with the disabled persons and their organisations as well as the people, who work with the elderly and disabled within the public and private sectors. Thus, DRG has turned user influence into a natural and vital element of the development and production strategy. As a result, design, functionality, quality and user-friendliness are the most important elements in the design of the assistive technology products manufactured in Denmark.

Many assistive devices are used on a daily basis by people assisting the elderly or disabled persons, whether they are volunteers, members of the family or professional carers. And the working conditions of the helpers are also considered in the product development. By improving the quality of life and independence of the user the working environment of the helper is improved and through the cooperation with the helpers their working postures are improved via product development.

The close cooperation between manufacturer, user, helper and professional players is best illustrated at Scandinavia’s most significant exhibition of assistive technology products and services designed for people with disabilities, Rehab Scandinavia, organised by DRG every spring (www.rehab-scandinavia.com)
Rehab Scandinavia offers the opportunity of presenting products an services, and user organisations, professional institutions and manufacturers of technology-based assistive devices may show their products to each other and the many interested players within the rehab sector.

  International cooperation
As a result of the intensified international interest in the high quality of the Danish assistive technology products and the export of 2/3 of the total production the international cooperation has been strengthened considerably during recent years.

The Danish Rehab Group cooperates with and supports the enterprises on the international market through export campaigns, participation in international exhibitions, cooperation with organisations and other agencies, participation in and organisation of seminars etc.

In the years ahead DRG will endeavour to strengthen and develop these international relations.
